Support the Arts
Maryland Theatre for the Performing Arts, located in Annapolis, offers premier artistic programming, innovative arts education and a unique cultural venue. MTPA has a variety of volunteer needs, from individuals looking to help with a one-day outdoor event, to professionals who would like to join a nonprofit Board or volunteer their time and business expertise to help a local arts organization grow. With only one full-time staff member, they rely on volunteer services to help fulfill our programming, and are always happy to meet new people! Volunteer to Help Curb Substance Abuse
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health, in collaboration with MADD and local coalitions, are looking for volunteers to support data collection and surveys, deliver promotional materials, participate in strategy sessions, and perform other tasks that will help to reduce and prevent substance abuse.  Come to an informational lunch on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 12:30-2:00 at Severna Park Library, 45 W. McKinsey Road, Severna Park, 21146 to find out what you can do to help.  Volunteer to do simple, short duration tasks or sign up for a larger role.  Opportunities are very flexible.  To come to the lunch, you must register.  Please e-mail Lauren at hdwine99@aacounty.org or phone 410-222-6724 by April 20th.

Save the Bay Day   April 22, 2017   9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena
Volunteers are needed for various tasks to beautify and clean up the park
, such as planting flowers, raking leaves, mulching, sprucing up the playground, painting, weeding, and more.  This project needs over 200 volunteers so bring your family, friends and groups. Volunteers will get a t-shirt compliments of Comcast and Comcast Cares Day.  Also, snacks and water are provided while working and all are invited to stay for pizza lunch.  This is the Volunteer Center’s BIG GREEN project this year and we’d love to see lots of helpers. Urgent Need for Drivers
There is a pressing need for adult Volunteer Drivers for Red Cross Biomedical Services in Maryland.  These volunteers will be delivering blood and blood product to our processing center from the Glen Burnie Donation Center and various mobile blood drives. They also may be delivering urgently needed blood to hospitals in the Baltimore area. A background check will be required for all adult volunteers. Move More!
Anne Arundel County Dept. of Recreation & Parks, “Take to the Trails 7K” is June 3, 2017.This is part of the Move More Race Series and is being held at Rec and Parks Headquarters, 1 Harry S Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD. Champions for Children
Volunteers are needed to support 5K for Harmony House. The Social Services Board for Anne Arundel County is holding a fundraiser on Saturday, April 29th, at Quiet Waters Park to benefit AADSS’s Harmony House, one of their underfunded programs that assists in the reunification of parents and children that have been separated. The event is a 5K run/walk so there are several volunteer needs, including:

Support for packet pickups (4/28, 3:00pm-6:00pm) in Annapolis; Set up (7:15 a.m.) and clean up (11 a.m.); Traffic/parking/crowd control and Registration table (7:30 a.m.); Course monitors (8:30 a.m.); Face paintiers (9 a.m.); Awards ceremony help (10 am). Minimum age to volunteer is 15. If you are interested, contact Kathy Aytch at Kathy.Aytch@maryland.gov.

Spend time in a beautiful place
The Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden is Annapolis’s only free public garden is looking for folks who would be interested in joining their volunteer staff as shop keepers in their small gift shop. The shop is open Mon-Fri. 9am – 3pm. Shifts are just 2 hours each and flexible. The shop is located in the Tawes State Office building across from the Navy Stadium on Taylor Ave in Annapolis. Retail experience is not required; on the job training will be provided. If you are interested in meeting new people in pleasant surroundings then contact the garden manager at 410-260-8184 or by email at jay.myers@maryland.gov to set up a time to see the shop and get a feel for what is involved.

Help Grant a Wish
The mission of Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength, and joy. They are dedicated to making every eligible child’s wish come true. Wish Granters and Bilingual Wish Granters are needed now. These Wish Granters work in teams of two with wish children and their families and Make-A-Wish® staff to help make wishes come true and throwing a wish party for the child when the wish is granted. Make-A-Wish staff will handle the major details of the wish. We ask volunteers to be the direct point of contact with the family, and most importantly, to keep the child excited about the wish prior to its granting! This is a long term volunteer opportunity. The time commitment varies but almost always takes place evenings or weekends. Volunteers must be at least 18 yrs old and have reliable transportation. Sarah’s House
Sarah’s House is a supportive housing program for homeless women, children, and men in Anne Arundel County providing case management, childcare, transportation and employment services at Ft. Meade.  Volunteer orientations are offered periodically at Sarah’s House.  Volunteers can work directly with guests or behind the scenes. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals, families, businesses and groups of all faiths and ages. Especially needed are volunteers for childcare while parents attend training classes and to help with tutoring children with their homework during the school year. Every Step Counts 
Bello Machre’s “Every Step Counts Walk, Bike, 5K Run” is Sat. June 10, 2017, 8am-12pm. This fun event is being held at Anne Arundel Community College.  Many volunteers are needed to make this day a success including: help with greeting, set-up, route support, food service and clean-up, and more; families and group volunteers are welcome. At Bello Machre, the volunteer possibilities are endless. Creativity and imagination, mixed with initiative and a caring heart, can make the volunteer experience memorable for everyone. Your caring heart will make a difference in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Lend your time and talents and open your heart to the individuals they serve. If you have a day or even a few hours – your support will bring a smile to someone’s face. We are also always looking for groups to help some of our homes with yard work.
