100 Volunteer Guides Needed

Homeless Resource Day is an annual County event to help those without permanent housing access the numerous services they need to become more self-sufficient and seek permanent housing. Saturday, October 28, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Volunteers, age 18+, are to needed serve as Guides for Anne Arundel County’s 10th Annual Homeless Resource Day being held at Glen Burnie High School, 7550 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. This is a “one-day, one stop” opportunity for individuals and families experiencing homelessness to receive a variety of services. The community’s support is an important part of the effort to address issues confronting homeless individuals and families.
Be a part of this unique initiative to eliminate homelessness in Anne Arundel County. Each volunteer will be paired with a homeless guest to guide them through the services. 3 volunteer shifts are available, 9:30-1:30 and 11:30-3:30 as guides; and 3-5pm for breakdown. Lights on the Bay

 The SPCA of Anne Arundel County is hosting Lights on the Bay for the first time! And they are looking for a little help to make it a success. They need 20 people on Sat, October 28th and Sunday the 29th and Sat, November 4th and Sunday the 5th, from 9am to 3pm at Sandy Point State Park, to help set up lights, make sure everything is working and to change bulbs. Mentoring Changes Lives 

Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, 6 – 8 PM,

Box of Rain invites those interested in learning about mentoring and a new Navigating Futures Mentoring Program to attend this session at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Dr., Annapolis, MD. If you’re looking to make a big difference in a child’s life and can commit 4-6 hours a month of 1:1 volunteer time, consider becoming a Charting Careers Navigator. Box of Rain’s Charting Careers program serves 100 children from Annapolis public and subsidized housing in grades 5 through 12.  Questions? Outreach Coordinators Needed

OHLA (Organization of Hispanics/Latin Americans of Anne Arundel County)

OHLA provides support, education and relief services to immigrant Hispanic-American families. Volunteers serve as Outreach Coordinators bridging existing gaps in areas such as health, jobs and other services needed by the community.  Bi-lingual volunteers staff the Annapolis office located in the Community Resource Center at 80 West St., and assist Hispanic constituents with many issues ranging from immigration to interpreter services, training provided.  Volunteers must be age 18 and up and some computer skills are preferred but not necessary. Maryland State Archives

 The Maryland State Archives offers a variety of programs for volunteers to help assist Archives’ staff. They can generally accommodate as many or as few hours as you would like to volunteer. Flexible scheduling, Monday through Friday between 8:30 and 4:00. Opportunities Industrialization Center  

Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) Of Anne Arundel County

This nonprofit agency provides job training and placement services to low income, unemployed and underemployed residents of Anne Arundel County.  A wide variety of volunteers are needed to assist and or teach basic computer, GED Preparations, English as a Second Language (ESL), resume writing, math skills, writing skills, job skills, job interviewing classes and much more. OIC is in need of volunteers to form a pool of instructors for our GED Prep classes. Office volunteers are also needed at the 2600 Solomons Island Road location. Wreaths Across Annapolis 

Annapolis National Cemetery, December 16, 2017

Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit, was formed as an extension of the Arlington Wreath Project in 1992.  Last year, Annapolis National Cemetery had a wreath on every single gravesite, it was breathtaking.  This was possible through the hard work and generosity from individuals, organizations and businesses.  There are approximately 3000 graves at Annapolis National Cemetery and the goal this year is to do it again – to have a wreath for each gravesite.

Wreath donations are being sought: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org to sponsor a wreath for $15; designate the wreath to the Annapolis National Cemetery, Friends of Annapolis. Also, volunteers are needed the day of the ceremony to lay wreaths on the graves. Mock Interviewers Needed

 Annapolis High School,  December 11-13, 2017

Volunteers are needed to conduct Mock Interviews and provide Career Guidance for 11th-grade students at Severna Park High on December 11-13 from 7:30 am to 2:20pm.  Help them cultivate real world experience, taking the topics introduced in 11th-grade English of résumé writing, interviewing, and networking and practicing them with YOU, our community partners.
